Dave Pollock completed his medical degree at the University of Cape Town in 1970. He was awarded a Fellowship from the College of Surgeons of South Africa with Orthopaedics in 1980.

He practiced in South Africa as an Orthopaedic Surgeon from 1980 to the present, with a special interest in Arthritis Surgery. He served as Chairman of the Western Cape Branch of Orthopaedics and was a founder and Exective memeber of the South Africa Knee and Arthroscopy Society. He was Doctors Representative on the Claremont Hospital Board.

He acted as a part time Orthopaedic Consultant at: Groote Schuur Academic Hospital, The UCT Sports Injuries Clinic, the Princess Alice Orthopaedic Hospital, the Victoria Hospital, Military 2 Hospital Wynberg. He also served as a consultant to the Western Province and the South African Rugby Union, the Western Province and the South African Cricket Association, The South African Hockey Association, the Ajax Football Club, the South African Football Union, the UCT Ballet School, CAPAB and the Cape Town Orchestra.
