Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Old Mutual SuperFund.

In 1978, Bertie obtained his Masters in Commerce and joined the Old Mutual Investments Division (now OMIGSA). In 1989 he transferred to Employee Benefits, where he became Senior Regional Manager. He then relocated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1995, to establish Old Mutual’s business in the USA.

He served as the President of the Old Mutual Investment Advisers from 1995 to 1997. On his return to South Africa in 1997 to 2005, he held various general management positions, including Chief Executive in Old Mutual. At the time of his retirement in 2006 he was Executive General Manager (Corporate Market) and in 2007 he was appointed by the Financial Services Board (FSB) to serve as a member of a Section 15k Tribunal thereafter he was elected Chairperson of the SuperFund Management Board. In 2010 the FSB appointed him as Chairperson and Independent Trustee for two non-compliant retirement funds. In July 2012 he was elected Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the South African Retirement Annuity Fund. He currently serves as an Independent Trustee of the South African Retirement Annuity Fund, the Old Mutual SuperFund and another large retail umbrella fund.
